tell them their maps look like scans of a Polaroid picture taken of a map that was found in the morning by a teenager who gets paid to clean up the vomit after the bars close at 4. too many button presses to get anything done, prompt every few seconds asking me for my location data. potential ... yes, but then again even our stuff (friend view) has potential. curious to see when google integrates social features into their maps app.

yeah the prompting thing is because it is not signed (you need to override it to only prompt first time). They are using OpenStreet map, i have already suggested that they try using Nokia Maps (i availalbe on the phone)

The use of OpenStreetMap could be cool, because that is itself a sort of social map, with all types of user-supplied data.

A killer for these types of applications would be the ability to "friend" local bus/train stops, and when you are near said locations, for it to tell you when the next one is arriving. When you are not near it, it should go quiet so as to not drown out your other contacts.

I found it from the gisuser directory. Looks interesting, but what other apps/services does it integrate with?

@dsample at least both jaiku and twitter, and on the maps some of the interest points are from wikipedia. It also has links to Hyves, youtube, flickr and Fireeagle.

In fact, I believe they have every geocoded location from Wikipedia. @panman did it, so he can tell you more.
